We are into day 4 of our Surfers Paradise holiday and we're having such a great time. The boys are happy and more importantly, my daughter is happy. Much of her stress and anxiety seems to have gone since being here in the sunshine. So a run down of our time so far...
Day One: We flew out on Saturday morning and everyone was just so excited... especially as it's been nearly three years since Stu and I have gone overseas. The boys loved the flight and then we got the bus and tram to our hotel in Surfers. It's a fantastic apartment with fabulous views and loads of room to spread out. Our bedroom is huge with an ensuite bathroom and walk in wardrobe.
After settling into our room we went for a long walk and then found a place called "Karen's Diner" which is named after all the Karens who were 'difficult' during the pandemic. At the diner the staff are allowed to be rude to you and you are encouraged to be rude back. It was all so much fun!
Day Two: We had an easy day just walking around and then enjoying the pool. My daughter and I went shopping for awhile and she was clearly enjoying her holiday so much. Her dreadful headaches seemed to go and she was very relaxed. This was a good thing let me tell you!
Day Three: Today was not so good. We got the tram and bus to Movieworld which should have been amazing but instead it was pretty miserable. Poor Charlie had been sick in the night and although he said he was OK, we realised while out that he clearly wasn't. When we got to Movieworld we went straight to the Scooby Doo ride (my daughter had done this ride and said it was fun). We had to queue up for probably 40 minutes but thankfully the ride was awesome! After that we headed to the Wild West ride but the wait time was about an hour. Charlie bailed, he said he couldn't do it so Stu took him away my daughter and Cole did that ride.
After waiting for so long in two queues we decided to not do any more rides as the wait times for ridiculous. What I can't understand is that there was no school holidays anywhere and yet the place was absolutely slammed. We had some lunch and came home and we all felt just so disappointed. In the evening we went to the Thai restaurant under our apartment and while the food was the best Thai I'd ever eaten, poor Charlie was simply too tired and unwell so we left as soon as we'd eaten and that was that.
Once the boys were in bed we noticed a couple in an apartment across from us who had their curtains wide open and they were clearly doing live online sex/porno shoots. The guy would slowly take off his top and flex his muscles in front of a camera and was obviously taking direction from someone. He'd pull down his undies and twerk into the camera etc. Then the girl would slowly take off her sweat top and had on the skimpiest bikini you've ever seen. Then she would show her boobs and bum etc. We were literally pissing ourselves laughing... do these people not realise how public an apartment window is?
Day Four: Up early for a walk then breakfast in a cafe by the beach. The boys found a shop that sells Tee shirts and caps with their favourite Youtube channel names on them so they each got a couple of shirts and caps. They were just so, so happy. After that we did the Quack'r'Duck amphibious bus/boat tour. It was so much fun and we all had a blast. After that a late lunch and back to our apartment. It will be a quiet night for us all after a big day.
I'm so happy that everyone is getting on so well and that the boys are having a fun time. I know that Surfers Paradise can be seem as a bit of a tourist trap but hey, it's fun!!

ReplyDeleteThat's the idea Tracy... lots of memories being made :)
DeleteNice to hear about your travels. Enjoy your time away with the family. Take care.
ReplyDeleteWe are enjoying out time, thanks Teresa.
DeleteWhat a wonderful holiday. I think parents take their kids out of school to go to places like Movie World. What do you think could be the cause of your daughter's stress? Maybe she should move to Surfers'!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter has suffered from anxiety for many years. It's an awful thing. The sunshine and relaxing helps a little though.
DeleteHi all looks and sounds fun!!! glad you are all happy....Peta
ReplyDeleteThanks. Yes, it's lovely to be together making memories.
DeleteHi Lynda
ReplyDeleteYour holiday looks lovely. We stayed at those apartments last week and went to that that restaurant downstairs and you are right, it's really good!!
Also, as a fellow anxiety sufferer, I have found that after moving to Queensland mine had completely disappeared and I absolutely believe the weather is a massive factor for me. I would love to live in NZ but those long winters wouldn't be good for my mental state.
Enjoy the rest of your time here!

Hello Jo! Fancy you commenting... it's been awhile and I'm glad Queensland is agreeing with you. I too dislike winter but it's been a really mild winter this year.
